DR. BLACK

ERIN BLACK, M.D.

Dr. Erin Black grew up in Gainesville, Florida before leaving to attend Dartmouth College. She returned home for medical school and her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine for her ophthalmology residency where she was selected as chief resident. Dr. Black’s ASOPRS ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship was completed at the prestigious UCLA Stein Eye Institute in Los Angeles, California. 


Dr. Black is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. She has taught cosmetic surgery and orbital decompression courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meetings. She has been a course instructor for UCLA aesthetic and orbital surgery courses, invited to speak internationally, and presented research in ophthalmology across the country. She has received numerous awards for her work on the state and national levels. 


Dr. Black was inducted in to the Gold Humanism Honor Society at the University of Florida College of Medicine during medical school, and she received a resident teaching award during her internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. She received an American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award in 2021 and named as a Women in Medicine “Top Ophthalmologist” in 2021. 


She also has a passion for health policy. Dr. Black has experience working on Capitol Hill for the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate. She served on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Young Ophthalmologist Advocacy Subcommittee and was elected Chair of the Resident and Fellow Section of the South Carolina Medical Association during residency. She has been honored by The American Medical Women’s Association with the Susan L. Ivey, MD Courage to Lead Award. 


Dr. Black enjoys spending time with her family and being involved in the Gainesville community.
